Top Tips For Choosing Your Wedding Day Perfume

When it comes to capturing the bridal preparations in the morning, one of my absolute most favourite things is seeing all of the details that my brides have chosen for their day. Each and every one is so unique and put together so beautifully.

The perfume for the day is one of these details that I can’t help but love and take pretty pictures of! In fact, a lot of my own perfume collection now has been purchased after having seen it at one of my weddings!

The wedding day perfume is something that not many will consider too much, whilst others will spend hours thoughtfully considering which scent they will wear on the most important day of their lives. You could decide to play it safe and go with your signature scent…although as we all know, the more we use a perfume, the more we become accustomed to it and the less we are able to smell it ourselves. Remember that feeling that comes with wearing a new fragrance that we love when we first start to use it?! Pretty amazing right?! So on a day as special as this it’s definitely deserving of something new and fresh and exciting! Something that will transport you back instantly to your wedding day upon smelling it again.

Below are a few little top tips to help you decide which perfume to go for on your wedding day…

TIP 1 ~ Skin verses those funny little white paper strips…

Spritz the sample on your skin rather than those little white strips that you can find in most places. You will never truly know how it is going to smell unless it is on your skin. It is also so true that perfumes smell differently on different people, so just because it smells great on your friend, doesn’t mean that it’s going to smell that way on you! Spraying it on to your skin also gives you a chance to wear it over the course of the day to see how long the scent lasts. It’s important to give it time to settle and develop on your skin.

Another great thing about trying it on your skin is that you will be able to see if your skin reacts to it in any way….and also to test run it with your soon to be Mr…you don’t want to choose something that will make him reconsider saying ‘I do”! 🙂

TIP 2 ~ Choose Eau De Perfume over Eau De Toilette…

Most perfumes are available in both Eau De Perfume and Eau De Toilette…so which one should you choose for your day?! You want something that will ultimately take you from those morning nerves, right through to when you’re boogieing the night away with the one’s you love, and with as few tops ups as possible over the day! In which case, you should ALWAYS opt for Eau De Perfume.

The main difference between the two is that there are higher concentration levels of fragrance oils in the Eau De Perfume which will make it last longer on the skin than the Eau De Toilette, which is much lighter.

TIP 3 ~ Identity attributes that you know you love already…

Identify common attributes of perfumes that you have worn and loved in the past. This will make you realise if you have a tendency to go for a certain type of smell, whether that be leaning more towards citrus, floral or oriental scents. If you have an idea, however roughly, of the kind of scent that you prefer then that will help you steer you in the direction of something that you will love! It should always be something that compliments your style and is ultimately ‘you’.

TIP 4 ~ DIY your own perfume…

What if you just can’t find a new perfume that you love? Start to panic?! NO…why not try to make your own! And I’m not talking about the days when we were young and would make perfume using just water and rose petals…I used to have bottles of the stuff just hanging around in my room as a child…pretty gross now that I think about it! ha

You will need an expert to help you here….and there are numerous places where you can go and create your own signature scent! The Perfume Society have a wonderful selection of fragrance consultants which can be found here https://perfumesociety.org/wedding-day-scent-listical/
